Peace be with you.
You might have just said without thinking, “and with your Spirit.” It’s just a natural response. But I want to highlight how this is the ultimate phrase of comfort from our Lord.
After Jesus’ death, the disciples had hidden in the upper room because of fear. Even though they walked with Him, saw his miracles, and got to learn directly from him, they still struggled with their faith.
Christ didn’t use this encounter to scold them for their lack of belief and understanding. Instead, he offers forgiveness and love with the simple phrase, “Peace be with you.”
When you’re having a hard time trusting God’s plan for you, or feeling distant from Christ, imagine Him walking in to your life, placing your hand on His heart… taking away any shame and doubt with those same comforting words… “Peace be with you.”
